Splendiferous Darjeeling..

Hey people, how's life treating you? It's been giving me pretty good things, like this sudden, unplanned trip to Darjeeling. My angel brother (cousin) asked me to go with him to his hometown to get myself refreshed from all these idle days I have been spending. So, I jumped at the opportunity and packed my bags and off we went. And the place is more beautiful than anything I've ever seen.

As soon as you cross Ilam towards the border place Pashupatinagar, you are greeted with thick fogs, which is kinda like the trademark of this place. Darjeeling once fell within the territory of Nepal, so you can easily see that it pretty much looks like the sister of Nepal's magnificent hill cities. Almost 90% of the people residing here are Nepalese, speak Nepali, do everything Nepali and are the hugest fans of Nepali movies. I fell in love with this place and have vowed to visit it next year.

The specialty of this place are its lush greenery, hills, tea estates and of course the famous railway, where various Hollywood, Bollywood and Kollywood movies have been shot. I stayed there for 10 days and was thoroughly enjoyed. So, if you're looking for some breathtaking place to spend your holiday, you don't have to look far.

Here are some pictures:

This is the local costume of Darjeeling. The tea estates lend you this dress for certain hours, and you can enjoy the tea estate and click several pictures in this pretty dress. Now, isn't that something?

Here's another one. They even lend you this basket so you can act like you're picking teas, like the locals do. :)

The hills of Darjeeling in all their glory. Don't look at my non-picturesque face, look at the picturesque hill city.

This is another one of Darjeeling's specialties. The rope-way ride, which extends from the top of the hill to a small city at the base, lasts 40 km and is very enjoyable. This was an old out-of-use cable car.

This place is called Chowrasta, which is a very famous junction of Darjeeling. Here, you can see the statue of great Nepali poet Bhanubhakta Acharya. This place is like a square, where people come for meetings, gatherings and programs.

The Mahakaal Temple. Even though many people follow Buddhism in Darjeeling, many more people still follow Hinduism, so the whole city is dotted with temples and monasteries.

The rope-way station. Had to stand in line for 4 hours, but hey, the journey was worth it.

More costume pictures, because I can't get over these pretty dresses. Hope you don't mind.

Oh, and I also visited the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park. This zoo is far wider and far better managed than our own zoo. And this zoo's specialty is this red panda, which you can't find in Nepal, so I had to include this cutie in my post.

So, with this, I bid goodbye to you and to Darjeeling, but I will be back for you both. You know I love you :)
